Telltale Signs That You Need Reading Glasses

Posted by

No one has perfect sight. Well, unless your vision is 20/20. But for the rest of us, sight can be almost as much of a challenge as getting up in the morning-- sometimes even more so! A good cup of coffee isn't going to fix your eyesight, but it may give you the energy you need to get up and go get some reading glasses. If you can relate to any of the following signs, you may just need some reading glasses yourself. Hey, the first step is admitting you have a problem.

Telltale Signs That You Need Reading Glasses

1. Your Face Is So Close To The Book, You can Smell The Paper

Everyone loves the scent of a freshly printed book. You may have become overly familiar with the smell of different books to the extent that you can tell what continent the book was printed on and the year. Books are amazing, but if your face is pushed up into the book so far that you've become a print-and-paper connoisseur, it may be time to admit to yourself that it's time to buy some reading glasses. Paper smells great, but it doesn't smell that great. Save your intimate knowledge of details for wine. Your high end buddies will be much more impressed with your knowledge of Pinot Noir than your database of various novel fragrances.

2. You Have Thirty Minutes Before A Headache Comes On

Settling down with a great book is relaxing and enjoyable. Settling down with a great book knowing that you've got about a half hour before a migraine starts is somewhat less so. You may as well get the kitchen timer and start reading, knowing that when the buzzer goes off, so will your head. If you're squinting and actually getting physical symptoms from having to strain to read Pride & Prejudice, it may be time to get some reading glasses. Trust us, it'll be cheaper than your Tylenol supply.

3. You've Switched To Audio Books "By Choice"

Now most of your so-called reading happens in the car, with a voice doing all the work. You've convinced yourself this is a choice, but the charges on your credit card are mounting and you'd really love to not save all your "reading time" for when you have to go to the pharmacy. Maybe you've convinced yourself it's a choice, but really, it's because you can't stand the process of constantly holding the book up to your face as close as it can possibly get. Don't segment your reading into when you have to run errands! It's time to saddle up and get those reading glasses. Because lounging on a couch with a good book beats weaving out of traffic and hoping your cd doesn't skip.

Do you know what a Snellen Eye Chart is? Most of us just refer to it as "the chart" at the eye doctor's office. That white piece of paper with all the letters on it that measures your visual acuity is the Snellen Eye Chart. The chart is named after Hermann Snellen, a Dutch ophthalmologist [...]
